History:
Villa Isidoro, once named Maplewood, is a fine example of a Tunnicliff stone house. The building was started in 1790 and continued by Aurelius Tunnicliff in a style similar to the cottage side of Hyde Hall at the end of Otsego Lake.
Isidoro Marra, your host at Villa Isidoro, bought the house in 1990. Izzy was born in Calabria, Italy, where he learned masonry in the old-world tradition and was an apprentice to an iron-working master. Over a period of fifteen years, he poured his heart into the building, restoring it, renovating it, turning it from a farmhouse to a restaurant and Bed and Breakfast. Now, the building has a tavern with a wood-fired oven, a gourmet restaurant, and several rooms for overnight guests.
